Abstract
The search for materials with extreme optical properties has given birth to a rich field of research in left-handed media [1] capable of refracting light negatively [2] and creating images with subwavelength resolution [3]. In general, resonances in the near field are a key ingredient in the design of materials with extreme optical properties, and in particular, the noted search has benefited from new structures that exhibit magnetic and electric resonances [1].
