Frozen Mode Regime in Bounded Photonic Crystals

Abstract

Light incident on a periodic dielectric structure with special dispersion relation can be converted into a frozen mode with drastically enhanced amplitude and vanishing group velocity. We consider how this spectacular phenomenon is modified in bounded photonic crystals with absorption.
