Surface Plasmons and Casimir Forces Between Metamaterials

Abstract

The Casimir force is significantly modified for mirrors made from metamaterials. It becomes much smaller in magnitude and may reverse its sign. We link this behaviour to the surface modes of the metamaterial (plasmon polaritons).
