Abstract
We describe composite optical solitons consisting of nonlinearly coupled spatially extended (periodic or quasi-periodic) and localized components, and reveal a fundamental difference between the composite moving solitons in self-focusing and self-defocusing nonlinear media related to the effect of dynamic gap merging.
