Abstract

Spectral broadening of optical pulses based on the nonlinear effect in a Si-wire waveguide was demonstrated for the first time. Spectra of 2-ps optical pulses from a mode-locked laser diode were obviously broadened in a 4-mm long Si-wire waveguide.
