Abstract

S-band amplification from 1480-1522nm with a peak gain of 36dB and <6dB noise figure is demonstrated in depressed-cladding Er:Al/Ge/Si02 fiber. A fundamental mode cutoff near 1530nm provides distributed suppression of C-band amplified spontaneous emission.
