Abstract
Temperature dependence of ytterbium doped amplifiers has been accurately determined using a novel technique. The results show that good intrinsic output power stability against temperature change can be achieved in ytterbium doped fiber amplifiers even when operating at high gain regime with small signal input. Output power variation of <0.03%/oC can be achieved with appropriate choice of pump and signal wavelength. This result demonstrates the great potential for stable high power laser systems based on ytterbium system.
