Maximal total gain of non-tapered silicon-on-insulator Raman amplifiers

Abstract

We give explicitly the optimal length and pump power for non-tapered SOI Raman amplifiers resulting in the maximum possible total gain. The latter can be increased equally well by decreasing carrier lifetime or linear losses.
