Spectral Broadening of Double Rayleigh Backscattering in a Distributed Raman Amplifier

Abstract

We observe broadening of the double Rayleigh backscattering (DRBS) spectrum in a Raman amplifier. This effect is caused by pump intensity fluctuations combined with proper fiber dispersion and can significantly reduce DRBS multipath interference crosstalk.
