Abstract

A silica graded-index oval core (GIO) fiber that can transform an elliptical field with an aspect ratio of 3.8 to a circular one, and vice versa, has been fabricated for the first time. The fiber promises low-loss coupling between high-power pumping LDs and single-mode fibers.
