FEC techniques in submarine transmission systems

Abstract

This paper describes different concatenated coding schemes for submarine transmission system. Simulation results demonstrate a net coding gain of about 8 dB for hard decoding strategy and up to 10 dB when using iterative soft decoding. The impact of the FEC net coding gain margin in a transoceanic submarine system is discussed.
