Abstract

Fabrication process, numerical analysis, and optical properties of the D-shaped optical fiber coated with chromium film were studied. The D-shaped optical fiber was obtained by drawing the side-cut D-shaped preform made by MCVD process. The fiber polarizer was made by coating the flat side of the D-shaped optical fiber with chromium metal film and the maximum extinction ratio of the fiber polarizer was found to be about 55 dB.
