Abstract

Conventionally, y-branches in photonics have been implemented using a tapered junction for small angle splitting,1 prisms for large angle splitting2 or multi-mode interference couplers. Photonic crystals have the potential to offer an alter- native technology for photonic crystal waveguide junctions and branches.
