Highly Integrated PLC-Type Optical Switches for OADM and OXC Systems

Abstract

Recent work on highly integrated silica-based thermo-optic PLC-switches is reviewed. N × N switches (up to 16 × 16), 1 × N switches (up to 1 × 128), 8 × 8 and 128 × 128 switching sub-systems, a monolithic optical add/drop multiplexer and related reliability tests are described.
