Nondestructive Characterization of the Transverse Profile of Fiber Bragg Gratings: Influence on the Polarization Dependent Properties

Abstract

A technique is proposed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio of index modulation amplitude measurement along fiber Bragg gratings. The transverse profile is also visualized and reveals minute asymmetries. Their effect on spectral response and birefringence are investigated.
