Manufacture of Perfluorinated Plastic Optical Fibers

Abstract

We review manufacturing processes for graded-index polymer optical fiber (GI-POF). We also demonstrate a new extrusion process, which produces GI-POF at much lower cost, with attenuation below 25 dB/km, and bandwidth greater than 400 MHz-km.
