Abstract

We propose a high-speed (up to 30 Gb/s) silicon-based coupled-ring modulator that requires small resonance shift and achieves high extinction ratio compared with conventional single ring modulator. Optimized chirp enables reach extension at 1 dB power penalty from 6 to 22 km for 20 Gb/s NRZ data transmission.
