Fully-Etched Photonic Crystal Grating Coupler as an Interface between Single-Mode Fibers and Photonic Circuits on Silicon-on-Insulator

Abstract

A fully-etched photonic crystal grating coupler with low back reflections is introduced as an interface between single-mode fibers and silicon-on-insulator wire waveguides. Peak coupling efficiency of 27% and 1-dB bandwidth of 34nm is achieved.
