Characterization of Semiconductor-Laser Phase Noise with Digital Coherent Receivers

Abstract

We develop a method of characterizing semiconductor-laser phase noise using a digital coherent receiver. The field spectrum, FM-noise spectrum, and phase-error variance can completely describe phase-noise characteristics.
