Abstract

Several alternatives to Sagnac-based He-Ne ring-laser gyroscopes and fiber interferometer gyroscopes are reviewed. CW and pulsed-laser RLGs are examined, plus various passive-resonator approaches using external lasers. Much research is needed to make such alternatives viable.
