Abstract

A novel in-line fiber-optic phase modulator has been demonstrated in an open-loop FOG. A phase modulation up to 3.8 radians was measured using a modulator fabricated by replacing half of the silica cladding of a polarization-maintaining fiber with a Kerr-like electro-optic silicone.
