Segmented Waveplate Polarisation Control for Laser Cutting

Abstract

In laser cutting, improved performance is expected to be obtained by increasing absorption within the cutting kerf. To control the polarisation we have recently fabricated a segmented quartz waveplate which converts linear to radially polarized light and survives high laser fluences.
