Abstract

A detailed examination of the effect of loading density on the hyperpolarizability of Disperse Red 19 (DR-19) in maleic anhydride copolymer has been performed using hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS). The hyperpolarizability of the polymeric solutions measured by HRS roughly tracks the concentration in the polymer, but also shows evidence of interactions between the pendant DR-19 groups in the chain as the distance between pendant groups decreases with increasing concentration.
