The effects of overall recti?cation and second harmonic generation of space charge waves (SCW) were reliably detected in photorefractive sillenites. Overall rectification causes variations of the DC current flowing in a circuit containing a photorefractive crystal and a voltage source when space charge waves are excited in the crystal. In the experiments, the variations in the DC current reached up to 25 %. Second-harmonic generation is detected by diffraction of a probe beam from the grating with doubled spatial frequency.
