Mode-locked ring lasers for the measurement of mirror backscattering

Abstract

When a mirror is inserted at the pulse crossing point in a mode-locked ring laser, its beat note characteristic shows a dead band proportional to the backscattering coefficient, which can be as low as 10-15.
