Photonic Crystals made from “Magnetic Atoms”

Abstract

We report on the first experimental demonstration of “magnetic” Photonic Crystals. We observe an avoided crossing of the Bragg resonance and the magnetic-dipole resonance of the constituting nanoscopic gold-wire pairs around 1100 nm wavelength.
