Abstract

A novel all-optical method of triggering phase-transition in prototypical vanadium dioxide using the “hot-electron” effect is demonstrated. Structural and electronic switching times are retrieved by nondegenerate pump-probe transmission spectroscopy on the hybrid metallic/phase-changing nanomaterial.
