Refractive Index Sensor Based on Optical Fiber Void Cavities Produced by the Catastrophic Fuse Effect

Abstract

We propose an optical fiber sensor based on the micro-cavities generated by t fiber fuse effect. This sensor was tested for different refractive indices mediums, ranging from 1.003 to 1.361, with an estimated resolution of 1.8×10−4.
