Probing wave packet motion of D2+ with sub-femtosecond resolution

Abstract

Ionization of D2 simultaneously forms both nuclear and electronic wavepacket. Within the first optical period following ionization the electron can re-collide. We use inelastic scattering to follow both electron and nuclear motion with 1fs precision.
