All-fiber Kerr-based wavelength converter for 1550/1300 nm conversion

Abstract

1550/1300 wavelength conversion is demonstrated using an original all-fiber Kerr–based converter. The novel architecture is presented. Classical interferometer limitations are discussed and compared with the proposed scheme, which offers both low environmental sensitivity and ease of operating point control. Walk-off compensation between the 1300 nm and the 1550 nm wavelengths is performed by engineering the nonlinear medium dispersion. The nonlinear phase shift expression in this condition is calculated and employed to simulate the conversion process. Experimentation up to 3 Gbit/s with NRZ format signals are presented showing good agreement with expected results.
