Abstract

In situ measurements of thermal poling of germanosilicate fibres under positive and negative poling voltages show the dynamics of frozen-in electrical fields in the fibre. The existence of the frozen-in fields are revealed by HF etching and AFM measurement of the poled fibres. These results support the electrical-field-induced χ(2) model for the induced electro-optic effect.
