Abstract

This paper presents a technique for calculating the effective scattering area (ESA) of objects of various shapes and with various reflective characteristics of coatings for various angles of incidence of the illuminating laser radiation. The technique is based on representing the surface of a body of complex shape as separate elements with a simple surface shape with specified diffuse-reflectance functions. The ESA from each segment with a simple surface shape is calculated, and then all the ESAs are summed. Formulas are given for calculating the ESA from the individual segments of objects with a simple surface shape.
