Abstract
The photoacoustic spectra of powdered MoS2 prepared by particle-size reduction and dilution have been determined and compared with the optical transmittance spectra of single crystals and thin-film deposits. MoS2 was chosen as a typical representative of the layer-structured transition metal dichalcogenides, for which optical properties are important in explaining their unusual structural and transport properties. Reasonably well-resolved photoacoustic spectra were obtained by a layering technique using KCl as a diluent. Analysis of the experiments indicated that the spectral resolution was obtained not by reduction in photoacoustic signal saturation but by the enhancement of diffuse reflectance.
