Echelle grisms: an old challenge to the electromagnetic theory of gratings now resolved

Abstract

The study of echelle grisms through the differential formalism of the electromagnetic theory of gratings becomes possible with the new possibilities raised by modern computers, which are able to run computations in quadruple precision (i.e., with 32 figures).
