Rotational Raman Interferometric Technique to Measure Gas Temperatures

Abstract

The rotational Raman interferogram profile of a gas is shown to provide the basis for a sensitive, remote measurement of the gas temperature. The technique is illustrated by means of a feasibility study of a laser radar atmospheric temperature probe. Errors in the measurement are discussed and suggestions given for an improved temperature probe.
