  2. This nomenclature is consistent with that in Ref. 1 in which Rs and r form a design parameter in the merit factor equation m = (Rs/r)/4F2λ2 and the scanner geometry equation Rs/r = cosπ/n + 2F sinπ/n, in which n is the number of scanner facets and F = f/D.
  3. Operation in convergent light is typical of postobjective scan.
  4. In the underilluminated case, only a small fraction of the facet width is active as Do. The scan fulcrum shifts effectively to the facet surface, allowing the resolution to be expressed directly by Eq. (1).
