Abstract
The location of a downed aircraft can be estimated to within kilometers by optically processing the Doppler-shifted emergency signal transmitted by the aircraft and received by a satellite. The process is described together with practical problems. A multichannel processor is proposed in which the output information is contained in the x,y, and z coordinates of the image space. An experimental processor is described.
