High-efficiency high-energy slab dye laser for photobiological experiments

Abstract
A flashlamp-pumped dye laser which gives 5-J 15-µsec pulses at 10-Hz repetition rate with 1.8% efficiency is described, the main use is for photobiological experiments. The design criteria and the performance obtained with several laser dyes are presented and discussed.
