Abstract

Photochromic eyewear is described which selectively blocks the blue and near-ultraviolet portion of the spectrum. The possible advantages of this wavelength-selective protective eyewear are discussed in terms of its applications to certain ocular pathologies such as retinitis pigmentosa, to preserve normal vision longer, and to reduce the visual impairment in lensless eyes following cataract removal.
