Abstract

A computer-controlled nitrogen-pumped dye laser with a linewidth of 500 MHz and which is scannable linearly in wavelength over the full range of a dye (~50 nm) with a ±25-pm error is described. The computer couples the grating and etalon to scan large wavelength ranges while scanning the etalon over only one free spectral range at a time. A highly linear grating drive appropriate for echelle gratings is presented. Results with a piezoelectric scanned etalon and a pressure scanned etalon are shown. With the pressure scanned etalon a frequency stability of ±300 MHz/week has been achieved.
