Abstract

Amorphous rare-earth transition-metal films for erasable magnetooptic recording were investigated in accelerated aging tests. Typical disk parameters were measured to determine the degradation mechanisms. CNR and BER are very useful for evaluating the lifetime of magnetooptic materials; this lifetime is expected to be more than 10 years in hermetically sealed air sandwiches.
