High power microobjective: a new design

Abstract

A new design for an oil-immersion achromat microobjective having magnification and numerical aperture of 97× and 1.2, respectively, has been developed. The system adopted for the new design consists of six elements but has a different configuration from traditional construction of oil-immersion achromatic microobjectives. The new design employs a four-element Cooke tripletlike construction in place of the usual Lister construction along with the conventional duplex front system. The performance of the new design is compared with the performance of the traditional design developed in similar conditions, and it has been found that the proposed new configuration is capable of giving better performance than the traditional configuration.
