In this decade of fewer Government research grants and stiffer resistance to tuition increases, two short articles on Stanford and Johns Hopkins Universities, reprinted by permission from the 8 July and 11 July 1990 issues, respectively, of The New York Times, discuss how they are facing the Nineties.
