Saturable absorber Cr4+:(Sr,Ca)Gd4(SiO4)3O crystals as Q switches for a diode-pumped Nd3+:KGd(WO4)2 laser

Abstract

Passive Q switching of a diode-pumped Nd3+:KGd(WO4)2 laser is demonstrated by use of Cr4+:SrGd4(SiO4)3O and Cr4+:CaGd4(SiO4)3O crystals as saturable absorbers. An average output power of 40 mW was obtained with a pulse repetition rate of ∼0.4 MHz.
