Abstract
We propose a method to present a three-dimensional (3D) image to a viewer wearing stereo glasses and a two-dimensional (2D) image to a viewer not wearing stereo glasses on a stereoscopic display. To quantify the perceived cross talk, we introduce a saliency-weighted cross talk visibility index (SCVI) map by considering visual attention regions that play an important role in determining the overall degree of cross talk in an image. Viewer cross talk is reduced by minimizing the SCVI map by reducing the intensity of leakage, compressing the disparity, and using a local intensity mapping method. Experimental results show that the proposed method can provide a strong 3D depth impression for viewers wearing stereo glasses and a high-quality 2D image for viewers not wearing stereo glasses on stereoscopic displays.
