Abstract

Optics in The Netherlands dates back to the origin of the telescope. The names of Lippershey, Snell Huygens, and van Leeuwenhoek typify this early dominance of the Dutch in optics. Peregrinations to a variety of museums, laboratories, and universities places their efforts in perspective to the current activity described in this issue.
