Abstract
Aircraft measurements of the earth–atmosphere radiance in the 8–14-μ window are compared with calculated values as a function of altitude. Two instruments, the Barnes PRT–4 radiometer and the Block I6T interferometer spectrometer, were used. The theoretical model is found to describe satisfactorily the integrated radiance from the earth and lower atmosphere.
