Optical Interference Coatings

Submission Deadline: 1 September 2013

The Optical Society of America is soliciting original papers for an Applied Optics feature issue on Optical Interference Coatings. Attendees of the Twelfth Topical Meeting on Optical Interference Coatings in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, from 16 June - 21 June 2013, are encouraged to submit their papers for consideration. Other papers in the field are also accepted.

This conference, like its predecessors, meets every three years to survey and capture advancements in the broad area of optical interference coatings and serves as a focal point for global technical interchange. It will include papers on research, development, and applications of optical coatings, such as fundamental and theoretical contributions in the field, as well as practical techniques and applications.

Today, optical coatings are regarded as one of the most important segments in optics technology. Coatings can sufficiently improve the performance of the entire optical system and can satisfy the function requirements, and, therefore, is an intensively active research field worldwide. Optical thin films play a dominant role in energy research including solar technology, laser fusion, and nanotechnology. Other technologies include space-based optical systems, display optics, medical applications, and anticounterfeiting technologies. As a direct key for the development of competitive innovations in optical technologies, leadership in optical thin-film technology is an indispensable prerequisite for an economic area of highest technology status. Major resources and those skilled in optical thin-film technology will meet in Whistler to form a critical mass of research and development activities with principal influence on the scientific community.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual standards for submission to Applied Optics; see the Information for Contributors in any printed issue or the OSA Style Guide. Manuscripts must also be uploaded through OSA's electronic submission system. All submissions must be submitted to the Optical Technology Division. Please specify that the manuscript is for the Optical Interference Coatings feature (choose from the feature issue drop-down menu).
