Applied Optics and Optics Express Joint Feature Issue

2014 Digital Holography and 3-D Imaging

Submission Opens: 1 August 2014

Submission Deadline: 10 September 2014

This joint feature issue is a continuation of a tradition, since 2007, to highlight current topics in digital holography and three-dimensional imaging. The issue is to follow the conclusion of the OSA Topical Meeting "Digital Holography and 3D Imaging (DH)," to be held in Seattle, Washington, July 13–17, 2014. The Topical Meeting provides a forum for science, technology, and applications of digital holographic, and three-dimensional imaging and display methods. The meeting has been growing, especially, in the application sides, and gradually expanding the recognition from other research communities.

The feature issue will call for papers in line with the topics of the DH Topical Meeting, including the science and technology of 3D imaging and display system, digital holography and holographic microscopy, computer-generated hologram, holographic lithography, holographic remote sensing, biomedical imaging. Research and review papers will be solicited from leaders in the topic areas.

All papers need to present original, previously unpublished work, and will be subject to the normal standards and peer-review process of the journals. To be eligible for publication, the paper needs to add substantial and/or significant new information to the original conference summary. Normal Optics Express open access charges will apply to all Optics Express published articles.

Topics to be considered include:
  • Advances in Digital Holographic Techniques
  • 3D Imaging and Display Systems
  • Computer Generated Holograms
  • Compressive Holography
  • Transport of Intensity
  • Quantitative Phase Imaging
  • Holographic Lithography
  • Digital Holographic Microscopy
  • Digital Holographic Optical Processing
  • Metrology and Profilometry
  • Holographic Remote Sensing Techniques
  • Fourier Transform Light scattering
  • Biomedical/Clinical / Medical applications
  • Novel Applications of Digital Holography
Choosing the Appropriate Journal

Scientific and technology innovations are the main factors for submissions to either one of the journals. As for Applied Optics, we encourage authors to give full and in-depth descriptions of the concept, theory, mathematical model, experimental system, and experimental results. For example, when a reader can reproduce your results by following your paper, we deem the descriptions as in-depth. As for Optics Express, emphasis is more on innovation rather than in-depth descriptions. The use of video multimedia files is highly encouraged for authors to demonstrate their innovative works.

Authors should recognize the difference between Applied Optics and Optics Express and select the appropriate journal for submission. If the selection of the journal is inappropriate, the Feature Issue Editors may recommend to the authors a transfer to the other journal.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the standard guidelines for Applied Optics and Optics Express and uploaded through OSA's electronic submission system. Please specify that the manuscript is for the Digital Holography and 3D Imaging feature issue. For Applied Optics submissions, please submit to the Information Processing Division.
