Abstract

A quantitative infrared procedure, adopted by the Essential Oil Association of the U.S.A. as part of their industry-wide book of specifications, is developed in sufficient detail to insure inter-laboratory agreement Specific operating conditions are to be provided in modified Coblentz Society format in the specifications for individual oils and aromatic chemicals. These terms, such as wavelengths, cells, etc., are carefully defined in the general procedure. Six basic techniques are described, such as, unknown sample, single beam; unknown sample vs. pure component, etc. A typical individual specification is included.
